WESTTEK® ANNOUNCES FIRST INTELLIGENT PROJECTOR DESIGN KIT

WESTTEK’s Sunspot Design Kit will provide OEMs a design framework for the development of intelligent conference room projectors

Redmond, Wash. -- November 8, 1999 - WESTTEK, LLC, a leading provider of intelligent office peripheral design services, today announced the availability of a video projector design kit, code named Sunspot.  The Sunspot Design Kit will enable original equipment manufacturers to develop an innovative new class of intelligent, connected, and user-friendly projectors.

"The Sunspot Design Kit capitalizes on a trend in the office peripheral market making common office peripherals more intelligent, easier to maintain and easier to use", said Tim Wells, president of WESTTEK.  "The Sunspot DK delivers on that promise by providing on-board presentation capabilities, a built-in Internet browser, and remote device management functionality."  Users making presentations using a Sunspot-based projector will have the ability to retrieve and deliver a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation directly from the projector, eliminating virtually all video connectivity issues.  The rich content of the World Wide Web will also be available to users from an on-board browser.

Device management and the total cost of ownership (TCO) also play an important role in the development of today’s intelligent office peripherals.  Information Technology (IT) groups using Sunspot based projectors will now have the unique ability to manage and troubleshoot these devices using a standard Web browser.  For example, IT employees will be able to determine the remaining lamp life of a Sunspot projector, or even upgrade the device’s firmware remotely.

The Sunspot video projector design is based upon Microsoft® Windows® CE 2.12.  The Sunspot Design Kit includes both a hardware and software reference.  The Kit is available in Alpha format today and will be released in February 2000.  Products using the Sunspot Design Kit will be demonstrated on the floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center at Comdex 1999.
